Thematic Working Groups

Three key thematic groups emerged from the interests shared at the May 2024 members meeting. These groups will serve as dynamic communities, shaped by evolving needs, interests, and opportunities for collaboration, all focused on practical, solutions-oriented approaches.

1- Arts and Sustainability

The arts and humanities offer powerful insights for communicating sustainability challenges, infusing these conversations with hope, inspiration, and new language for socio-ecological transitions. Artistic thinking also brings creative non-linear problem-solving skills to the table. A prime example of this approach is the Reach '24 Sustainability in the Arts Festival, organized by Queen’s University Belfast in partnership with SDSN Ireland, April 2024. 2 - Research and Policy Interface

This group seeks to bridge the gap between the research and policy ecosystems in areas that will advance the Sustainable Development Goals. This includes building the capacity of researchers and policy practitioners in order to accelerate the transfer of scientific evidence into policy.

The current focus of the group is on sharing experiences, successes and challenges and case studies of SDG related policies that have been informed and underpinned by research from SDSN members.

3 - Education for Sustainable Development

Building on successful all-island and international collaborations, this group aims to scale up existing initiatives while developing innovative approaches to enhance the effectiveness and reach of learning and teaching for sustainability.
